The AAG is just around the corner

The annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) is just around the corner and I’m counting the days. I’m particularly excited this year for a few reasons:
  • the program this year includes a mini-conference on transportation justice, key-note presentations by Harvey Miller, Antonio Paez, and Song Gao, and several interesting-looking sessions including ‘The Interesting Data and Methods Session’ and GeoAI topics.
  • the AAG is a great opportunity to meet old friends and connect with new people
  • this year, I’ll be making a road trip from Toronto to Detroit with colleagues from the Uni of Toronto.
  • My schedule is almost ready. Here are a few sessions I’m more directly or indirectly involved:
  1. Session - Transportation Justice 1: Theory, politics and democratic planning

    • Alex Karner will be presenting our work in progress on ‘New Directions for Assessing Transportation Inequality and Poverty’
  2. Session - Transportation Justice 4: Dimensions of inequitable accessibility

    • I’ll be presenting our paper on talking about the elephant in the room (that very few people look at monetary costs in accessibility analysis) and how the trade-off between time and money can significantly shape accessibility conditions and equity
  1. Panel - Driving Change: Community Perspectives on Transportation Justice in Detroit

    • Alex Karner and Steven Farber will be leading a panel discussion on Detroit’s journey toward transportation equity from community-centered lens
  2. Session - Transportation & Environmental Exposure

    • Luyu Liu will be presenting our paper on ‘Measuring Extreme Heat Exposure in Public Transit Systems’. Preprint here

ps. If you’re around the AAG this year, feel free reach out ! I’d love to connect.
